Mental Health
Lawyers

By successful negotiations our clients are able to spend more time in the community with their loved ones.

We have been awarded a Standard Civil Contract by the Legal Aid Authority (LAA) to provide legal services in Mental Health. This contract allows us to represent clients before the First-Tier Tribunal (Mental Health) and advice and assist clients at Hospital Manager’s Meeting. It is obviously a very stressful period when our clients are detained under the Mental Health Act. To relieve stress we arrange regular visits to see our clients in hospital to attend and take instructions. As well as seeking our clients discharge from hospital we advice on the practicalities of hospital transfer as well as issues relating to receiving or extending community leave. By successful negotiations our clients are able to spend more time in the community with their loved ones.

Once our clients are ready for discharge we attend Care Programme Approach Meetings in hospital to ensure our clients receive the best possible aftercare. Our solicitors will also advice, assist and represent all those who are subject to Supervised Community Treatment living in the community.

As well as advocating before the Tribunal we can provide representation in County Court proceedings in relation to Nearest Relative displacement applications. We also assist our clients in pursuing complaints through the NHS Trust Complaints procedure and pursue Judicial Review cases from Mediation through High Court.

Legal Aid funding is available to most clients subject to means and merits test.
